New Moon in Gemini: May 30th, 2022
Blog Post Synopsis
Within this blog post, we will be discussing the upcoming new Moon in the sign Gemini and how you can use it as a tool for healing, introspection and self mastery. Get your journal, it is time to reflect!
How to Use This Blog
The reason I create horoscopes is so that they can be used as a tool for introspection and reflection. I recognize, when observing the outside world from a general perspective, we receive very little encouragement to work on developing and understanding our inner world. Use the information provided in this blog for material to prompt guided introspection.
Background Information
When using Astrology as a tool for healing and introspection (within the realm of Natal Astrology), the planets can be viewed as energies that represent different parts of our nature, or frequencies that resonate with and influence different parts of our nature. They show us that we are comprised of many parts that make a whole. The signs of the zodiac can be viewed as the atmospheres that the different parts of our nature (the planets) express themselves through. Lastly, the astrological houses can be viewed as the different life areas that make up our lives. From this view point, interpreting horoscopes can be easier to digest and more practical for immediate implementation.
Reminder: The study of Astrology is from the perspective of the Earth looking out towards the cosmos. In other words, Astrology is an Earth based natural science. Having this piece of context at the back the mind can be a helpful best practice when discussing anything regarding the study of Astrology.
Full Moon and New Moon 101
Full Moons are always in the opposite sign of the Sun. For example, on May 16th, 2022 there was a total lunar eclipse in the sign Scorpio and the Sun was in the sign Taurus. Scorpio and Taurus are opposites signs. New Moons on the other hand always take place within the same sign the Sun. For example, the Sun is currently in the sign Gemini and the upcoming new Moon on May 30th will be in the sign Gemini.
What You Came For
On Monday May 30th, 2022, there will be a new Moon in the sign Gemini. This new Moon will have an added pizzazz due to the addition of the planet mercury retrograde in the sign Gemini. I recognize we have not discussed retrogrades here on this blog, so let us establish some understanding of what a retrograde is.
Planets 101
Planets within our solar system move in two motions, prograde (also referred to as direct) and retrograde.
Prograde Motion
The prograde motion is often considered a planet’s ‘normal’ motion due to the amount of time a planet spends in this motion within a given Earth year (365 days). All planets (and yes I consider Pluto to be a planet) spend the most time in a prograde motion within a given Earth year (365 days).
For the purpose of simplicity and transferability, we can consider a planet’s prograde motion to be similar to the flow and active forward movement of a human life. In this motion, a planet moves in a forward direction, at its ‘normal’ speed before it slows down preparing to transition into the retrograde motion. The prograde motion from an astrological perceptive promotes active action and initiation. With the exception of those of us born during a planet’s retrograde motion, many of us are familiar with the frequency a planet emits when it is in the prograde motion. This frequency is what we consider to be ‘normal’.
Retrograde Motion
In recent years, the retrograde motion has developed somewhat of a negative connotation. I see being partly due to western society’s rejection of feminine energy. If the prograde motion can be compared to the flow of a human’s life, the retrograde motion can be compared to the ebb and passive backward movement of a human’s life. During a planet’s retrograde motion, the planet physically appears to be moving backwards through space from the perceptive of Earth which is an optical illusion created by the varying speeds of the planets being compared to each other. Similar to the appearance of the planet during a retrograde, we may also find ourselves reflecting on the past, or experience people, places and things from our past resurfacing in our lives. The retrograde motion from an astrological perspective promotes reflection and introspection.
The perspective I see Natal Astrology from is one that views the energy of the planets within our solar system as representations of the different parts of our nature. I see each planet and astroid resonating with a different part of our nature, creating what a psychologist would call our psyche. I have read the Astrologer Ronald Davison refer to this as our nativity and that has stuck with me.
I recognize I have theories and hypotheses that make sense to me and sharing them may be beneficial within the overall conversation of Astrology. I have been slightly cautious of stating how I see things, however, I see operating in that manner does not serve anyone! With this said, my theory is as follows:
The frequency a planet emits based off of its energy can be categorized into the ranges of under-active, neutral and overactive. The motion of the planet (prograde and retrograde), the position of the planet (domicile, exalted, detriment and fall) and the aspects formed by the transiting planet and any natal planetary positions within an individual’s natal chart will determine where the frequency of the planet will fall on the range. The range determines the level of activity the planet will play in an individual’s life, however, it does not determine how the individual will experience the shift in energy. What will determine the individual’s experience of the shift in energy is dependent on the individual’s overall state of alignment.
Nothing, not even Astrology, can trump our state of alignment. If we are unable to recognize our alignment, we are therefore not grounded no matter where the frequency of the planet falls on the range. When we are not grounded the experience of the shift in energy will be unpleasant and uncomfortable. Conversely, if we are able to recognize our alignment, no matter where the planet falls on the range, the experience will be light hearted and easy to learn from.
Horoscope
“How you gon’ win when you ain’t right within?” Reflection will be of the highest importance during this new Moon phase, which may create a seed of restlessness between where you find yourself at the moment and where you desire to be. New Moons are generally opportune times for starting new endeavours, however, because Mercury is currently in the retrograde motion in the sign Gemini, we are collectively being cautioned to pause, reflect and review the action items on our to do lists. The use of the objective logic the atmosphere of the sign Gemini abundantly provides to review our relationships, and specifically the ones that have qualities of the 7th house (committed) will result in profound clarity that will become even more clear over time. Allowing yourself to identify with the inner truths that surface, while not taking anything personally, will be of a huge assistance in any effort to establish balance. Integration is the ultimate conclusion.
New Moon Reflection
My question to you at this time is, ‘what is preventing you from living in harmony with your mind?’ The only way to figure this our is by getting out of your own way.
Conclusion
The annual retrograde season is approaching and this year it is coming off of the heels of two major eclipses. . Using this new Moon phase to reflect and get on the same page with ourselves will provide the grounding we collectively need. While it may feel uncomfortable, taking a step back to observe our life from an objective lens will provide we truly desire.
